Effective the start of spring session on March 21, 2022, masks will be optional at Hampton Roads Scholastic Chess Club (Tuesday night youth tournament club) and all weeknight classes run at the Mid-Atlantic Chess Center. For our youth programs that run in 12-week blocks Fall-Winter-Spring-Summer, masks remain mandatory until the completion of the winter session, as we feel that families should be able to complete the program they signed up for under the mask mandate. At this time, HRCA has carefully considered trends, medical advancements, guidelines, and laws, and has determined that effective immediately, masks are optional at the Peninsula Satellite Club in Hampton, the Hampton Roads Chess Club (adult/advanced youth tournament club on Tuesday nights) in Virginia Beach, and at any upcoming special events, workshops, and tournaments run by HRCA. While HRCA is a private non-profit and not covered by this law, we have always considered school policies, state and federal laws, and CDC and state health department guidelines in making decisions about our COVID-19 policies. The law takes effect immediately, but schools have until 1 March if necessary to implement changes.
